CFCI Base Directors, Cochabamba, Bolivia

Long-term mission workers are an undeniable necessity in the eternal work of God.

During our years as full-time mission workers, we have seen the importance of short-term missions. But short-term missions will not have lasting results without people who are committed long-term to God’s work.

Clearly this requires a decision to follow and serve our God, to make His heart ours for the rest of our lives–for the sheep that is not yet in the fold.

If God is calling you, don’t leave Him waiting. He needs your answer–an answer that demonstrates your faith and confidence in Him and takes transformation to many lives that need Him.

Join the work of God through CFCI; there is literally a world of opportunities.

Every time I go on the mission field it proves to be a new adventure and the last trip was no exception.

We started out in the planning stage of the trip with 9 enthusiastic guys ready to go down to Bolivia and play basketball while spreading the word of God. Two days before we left we were down to five guys and had yet to receive two passports. I was concerned that we didn’t have enough guys to make a basketball team, and without two crucial passports we hardly had a team at all. Needless to say… God provided.

The last passport came in the mail 3 hours before we left the airport. When we arrived in Bolivia our second problem was solved when we met a Bolivian basketball player who spoke perfect English (very rare) and wanted to play on our team. He also brought his 6’5″ (also very rare) Bolivian friend to make our team complete. We had a great time playing and ministering to the people and were able to win the championship in the tournament we competed in. We also formed great relationships with the teams and the Bolivian Basketball Association who invited us to compete in the tournament next year.

I have finally figured out that God does not call me to worry or to force “my ways,” but rather to fully rely on Him. He knows exactly what I need and when I need it. After all it was His trip and I was just along for the ride.

Bolivia and Paraguay are the only landlocked countries in South America.

It’s formal name is Plurinational State of Bolivia; Estado Plurinacional de Bolivia in Spanish; and Bulibya Republika in Quechua.

Bolivia is the poorest South American country.

President Evo Morales, elected in 2005, won by the largest margin since the 1980′s.

The Aymara, decendents of a great pre-Inca civilization, continue to turn to Christ with over 20% Evangelical Christians.

Cultural differences serve as markers in Bolivian social hierarchy. For example: an upper class Bolivian might refer to a Quechua speaking man as “hijito” or little child, while the upper class man would be addressed as “sir.”

If staying in the city, you could join the locals in morning coffee, tea or api (a hot maize drink) or step into the marketplace and grab a hot stew.

The overwhelming majority of the Bolivian population is Catholic (95%), while the remaining 5% are Evangelical Methodist.

The fastest growing urban cities include: Santa Cruz, La Paz-El Alto, and Cochabamba, where CFCI-Bolivia’s base is located.
